Benedykt XVI zapowiedział w Madrycie, że św. Jan z Avili (hiszp. san Juan de Avila) zostanie wkrótce ogłoszony Doktorem Kościoła. Będzie to 33. osoba z takim tytułem. Tytuł Doktora Kościoła jest przyznawany wyłącznie tym świętym, których nauki są ważną częścią doktryny Kościoła, a oni sami stanowią wyjątkowy przykład wypełniania nauki Chrystusa w swoim życiu. Oby papieska decyzja przyniosła dobre owoce w zepsutym kraju jakim jest Hiszpania.
