Plurimos Annos Sancte Ioannes!

621 lat temu, 24 czerwca, urodził się św. Jan Kanty. Studiował on w Krakowie, gdzie zdobył 2 doktoraty (z filozofii i teologii). Cechowała go ponoć wielka szczerość. Istnieje legenda że gdy został napadnięty i nakazano oddać mu wszystkie pieniądze, on posłusznie to uczynił, a gdy przypomniał sobie że ma jeszcze przy sobie kilka monet wrócił się do zbójców, aby im je wręczyć. Był także miłosierny i pomagał potrzebującym, między innymi studentom. Do dzisiaj możemy także podziwiać efekty Jego ogromnego wysiłku jakim było przepisywanie manuskryptów (ok 18 000 stron przechowywanych w bibliotece Uniwersytetu Jagielońskiego) . Jestem dumny że mieszkam w mieście, które może się poszczycić tak wspaniałym patronem.

621 years ago, on 25th June, st. John Cantius was born. He studied in Cracow, where he obtained 2 degrees (from philosophy and theology). He was said to be very honest. When he was attacked during one of his journeys and told to give all money to the thieves, he obediently did so. After some time he recalled that he had few coins hidden in his clothes. He went back and gave them all to the robbers. He was also merciful and readily helped the poor (including students). What is more, even today we may marvel at the fruits of his great effort, which are ca. 18 000 pages of manuscripts kept in the Jagiellonian University's library. I am honoured to live in the city which may pride itself on having such a great patron saint.
